Tasks for the New Year

It’s hard to believe that the New Year has almost arrived! With the holiday festivities well under way, the quieter period between Christmas and New Year is the ideal time to get on top of your business tasks for 2016.


Carve out some time in your schedule now to ensure your planning period is the most productive yet!


Here are the tasks I’ll be making a head start on before we reach January 1st.


Strategic planning: many of us will already be looking at our targets for 2016, looking at areas that have performed well and those which need to be improved. Think strategically about how you’ll grow your business over the next twelve months, and plan how you’ll achieve this. Now is also a good time to consider any new business ventures or directions that can provide rewards longer term.


Scheduling: over the holiday period lots of networking takes place, and many business cards are exchanged. Make a list of who you want to follow up with and send them an email to set up a meeting in the new year. Also follow up on any outstanding meetings or catch-ups and start 2016 on an organized and busy note!


Thought leadership: positioning yourself and your business as a subject matter expert is a proven way to boost your profile and garner trust. Look into writing articles that present your expertise and insight, and comment on current affairs for timely coverage. LinkedIn Pulse is a great platform for sharing your professional views.


Social media: take time to look at your social media profiles, updating any out-of-date information and refreshing cover and profile images. Devise a social media strategy for the New Year; planning ahead for key dates and advocacy days that you can participate in online.


General tasks: get ahead on any filing, administrative or general business tasks that you’ve been putting off. I’ll be tidying up my workspace and starting 2016 with a tidy desk and a tidy mind!
